Tree works to begin in Romsey in July

Released: 14 June 2017

Tree works to improve public safety in the Main Street of Romsey will take place next month.

An English Elm tree located in the shopping precinct, opposite Forbes Automotive, has been identified as being in an advanced state of decline, and will be removed due to public safety concerns.

Council’s Director Assets and Operations, Dale Thornton said the tree removal was unfortunate, but necessary.

“Council regularly carry out tree inspections throughout the shire, and during this process, this particular English Elm was identified as having extensive internal decay.

“While we aim to maintain tree health and protect our iconic streetscapes, the safest option is to remove the tree,” he said.

Works to remove the tree will begin in July, with a tree of the same or similar species to be planted in the vicinity.

For more information about these works, call Council on 5422 0333.
