Woodend, Lancefield, Macedon and Mt Macedon Heritage Study 2019

The Macedon Ranges Shire Heritage Study: Woodend, Lancefield, Macedon and Mount Macedon was completed in 2019.

The study area focused on the towns of Woodend, Lancefield, Macedon and Mount Macedon and meets an action identified in the Macedon Ranges Heritage Strategy to review previous heritage work and identify gaps. The study reviewed 56 places previously identified in the older work, the Macedon Ranges Cultural Heritage and Landscape Study 1994.

Each of the 56 places were assessed and 33 heritage sites were documented for their cultural and historic significance. The Macedon Ranges Heritage Study continued on the work recommended in the earlier 1994 study, ensuring that the significance of these heritage places was fully documented and able to be protected for future generations.

The study was adopted by Council on 24 April 2019 and was progressed through Amendment C127. The 32 permanent Heritage Overlays on the places in the study, became part of the Macedon Ranges Planning Scheme on 31 August 2023. This ensures these heritage places are protected for present and future generations of the Macedon Ranges community and all Victorians.

One other place in the heritage study, the former Victoria Police residence and station building at 59 Victoria Street, Macedon, has already been protected by a Heritage Overlay through Amendments C124macr and C125macr.
