Stand for Council
The next Council elections will be held in October 2024.
Nine Councillors are elected by the residents and ratepayers of the shire for a four year term.
The roles of Mayor and Councillors are varied and can be deeply satisfying. If you are interested in how to stand for Council, you can find out more at:

Candidate information sessions coming up
Council is partnering with the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) to host a Candidate Information Session on Wednesday 15 May 2024 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at Kyneton Town Hall. The session can be attended either in-person or online. Register to attend
If you are unable to attend the session on Wednesday 15 May, the MAV is delivering several other information sessions for the community and prospective candidates. Find out more: Session dates and registration information
Council will also hold four informal candidate sessions that will include some recorded material from the MAV. These informal sessions will not be available online. Dates and locations are listed below. Registrations are not required.
The Victorian Local Governance Association is also hosting a number of free online sessions (registrations essential), including:
- Standing for Local Government - Friday 17 May, 12pm-1:30pm
- Local Women Leading Change - Friday 24 May, 12pm-1:30pm

Women X Stand for Council
In the lead up to the 2024 Victorian local government election the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) is encouraging greater participation of women in local government as councillors, in recognition of their under-representation in this space.
